Etienne Uzac
Etienne Uzac is an accomplished media entrepreneur with a wealth of experience in print and digital media. His journey began with his relocation from Santiago, Chile, to South Africa and France, setting the stage for his globetrotting adventures. Etienne attended Lycée Stanislas Paris in France for his high school education before pursuing his college studies at The London School of Economics and Political Science. With a solid academic foundation, Etienne made his way to New York, where he became an integral part of the International Business Times (IBT) founding team. Established in 2006 as a digital media company in New York, IBT commenced its mission of providing all-digital business news coverage to various countries. As the company expanded, it underwent a name change to IBT Media and successfully introduced additional brands to its portfolio, including Medical Daily, Latin Times, and Player. One, and Fashion Times. Following the growth and achievements experienced at IBT, Etienne led the company's successful acquisition of Newsweek Magazine in 2013. He relocated to Newsweek's offices in Downtown New York, determined to drive its revitalization.
Etienne, alongside the IBT team, made substantial investments in the development and expansion of Newsweek, transforming it from an e-magazine into a fully-fledged news website hosted at its original domain, newsweek.com. Additionally, they reintroduced the print edition, garnering significant attention for Newsweek's editorial content and ultimately achieving profitability by the end of 2014. During this period, IBT experienced substantial growth under Etienne's guidance, thanks to the implementation of proprietary technologies that provided a competitive edge in digital publishing. The company's commitment to excellence was exemplified by recruiting top-notch journalists, resulting in numerous accolades, including six SABEWs, one Izzy, and three The Drum Online Media Awards.
